Looking Back:
Looks like that last mud slap was one hit too many for electrike. Xain tries to take advantage of mudkip's weakness to grass attacks while healing treeko a bit but gets interrupted by torchic. Speaking of torchic, it's still powered up from focus energy (which it used earlier) and gets a critical hit with that last scratch attack, which ends up KOing treeko for the win.
If you take a look at what May is saying in panel 4 you may notice that something is off, aside from that fact that she's mentioning an instruction manual. First off, she's not talking about a literal manual, just pointing out to Xain that he still has a lot to learn. However, she herself has some things to learn as well considering that her statement isn't exactly correct. Paralyze actually does last forever (or at least until it's healed with an item or the paralyzed pokémon is healed at a Pokémon Center), however it doesn't always prevent the paralyzed pokémon from attacking. So torchic isn't cured of the paralyze status, it just isn't fully paralyzed this time.
And that's the official explanation. However, when I first made this strip I was thinking, for some reason, that paralyze did wear off on its own after a while (I must have been half asleep to be thinking that). Fortunately, the explanation in the above paragraph makes everything ok.
