#22 Pokéball Go!!!
First Comic Previous Comic Next Comic Today's Comic
Looking Back:
Once again, the motion blurs in the third and fourth panels kinda suck but they were really the best I could do at that point. Torchic makes it's first appearance in panel four along with some really poor filter use to show him coming out of the pokéball, another thing that improved significantly later on. Anyway, Brendan's first battle isn't really much of a battle at all. This strip sets up the comic's longest running joke, Brendan's horrible aim when it comes to throwing pokéballs, something that will give him and the others a lot of grief in later strips. However, here it actually proves rather useful since nailing poochyena causes it to run away. Another thing that made it's debut in this strip is Brendan's official pokéball throwing motion blur background. This was the first fancy graphical effect I'd done that actually looked good and I was really happy with it. Took me like an hour to make... It's orange for a few reasons, the main two being that Brendan's main pokémon, torchic, is orange and that orange is my favorite color.
