Looking Back:
Like just about every RPG, the Pokémon games have treasure chests lying around which contain all sorts of useful (and not so useful) items. Except that they're not chests, they're pokéballs. Why keep items in pokéballs? Who knows? And it's very wasteful since you apparently throw the pokéballs away after getting the item out. In Pokémon Coliseum and Pokémon XD on the Gamecube, these pokéball chests are actually replaced with real chests painted like pokéballs (odd, but a bit more sensible). At least there you don't have to wonder why someone would store a pokéball inside another pokéball.
A little later in the comic, I started using different sprites for item and TM pokéballs than I do for regular pokéballs (the actual chest pokéball sprite compared to the pokéball sprite used in battle) , just to make it clear which is which, but this strip was created before I made that decision so the regular sprite is used.
