Looking Back:
Why exactly do you need specific gym badges before you can use HMs like Flash? Game balance, of course! But if we want a more logical reason... The HMs would have to be key coded some how with the badges working to unlock or activate them. Presumably as some sort of system created by the Pokémon League to make sure that trainers progress along a set route and don't get ahead of themselves. In this case, they want to make sure you clear the Dewford gym before you go exploring any caves (or finding Steven). So, on to the gym! |
